Festivals in Punjab Tourism
On its calendar, vivid events reflecting Punjab's active culture abound. Celebrated in April, Baisakhi honors the birth of Khalsa Panth as well as the harvest and incorporates joyful dances and music. Celebrated in January, Lohri marks the end of winter through bonfires, singing, and traditional cuisine. Gurpurabs mark the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji with religious processions and communal feasts (langars). Diwali and Holi are celebrated with enormous enthusiasm all throughout the state. Special to Punjab, Hola Mohalla at Anandpur Sahib combines spiritual sessions and martial arts exhibitions to provide a blend of faith, history, and excitement.
Baisakhi: Celebrated as a harvest holiday and Sikh New Year, Baisakhi honors wealth and gratitude with colorful processions, folk dances, and group meetings.
Lohri: Celebrating fertility and the harvest season, Lohri marks the end of winter with bonfires, traditional music, and dances, especially popular in rural Punjab.
gurpurabs: By means of religious prayers, processions, and langar—community kitchen— Gurpurabs celebrate Sikh sacrifices and births, thereby underscoring Sikh dedication and communal spirit.
Holi & Diwali: While Punjab celebrates Diwali with lights and fireworks showcasing cultural unity and delight, Gurpurabs observe Holi with vibrant colours and joyful gatherings.
Hola Mohalla: Emphasizing bravery and faith, conducted in Anandpur Sahib, Hola Mohalla is a Sikh event including martial arts demonstrations, mock battles, and spiritual rites.
