Here is a bit about the pilgrimage. The start of every unforgettable pilgrimage does not occur at the site of the temple but rather at that point of no return between the secular and sacred journey from time to eternity. Well, in this case of the pilgrimage Kedarnath Kedarnath and Badrinath Yatra, that place is Dehradun. And here is why it is an ideal starting point. Dehradun is Situated at approximately 640 meters above sea level, it is located within the Doon Valley, nestled between the Himalayas to the north, and the Shivalik ranges to the south. This entire city is the home to natural beauty and a rich history. Regardless of whether you arrive by air, rail, or road our team will assist you and you with a helpful and warm transfer from the airport or train station to your hotel. Which will eventually help establish a warm tone in advance of the day's activities. You should start by visiting the Mahadev Temple, which is located just outside of Dehradun.  And it is majorly known for the natural spring flowing over a naturally formed Shivalinga. Well, it’s not necessary for you to visit, only if you have ample time prior to the flight briefing to make the pilgrimage to seek the blessings of Dehradun's own Shiva prior to beginning your pilgrimage to the most powerful residence of Shiva, Kedarnath and/or Badrinath. The Dehradun-Kedarnath have spiritual Connections Throughout the Ages. The City of Dehradun appears in both the great epics, The Ramayana and The Mahabharata, in addition to being the home of Sage Drona (teacher of the Pandava warriors) who established his ashram in Dehradun while creating the Kedarnath Temple as an atonement for his part in the Kurukshetra War after he received Lord Shiva's blessings. The City of Dehradun is the home of the creator of the Do Dham Yatra, which you begin tomorrow, and it is the home of Sage Drona who was the teacher of the warrior the combined grief and devotion created the holy site you are visiting. The city of Dehradun and the holy site of Kedarnath are connected by an unbroken thread of history that spans more than 3000 years.

Kedarnath,  at 3583 meters high, part of the huge glacial amphitheater below Kedarnath Peak and Kedar Dome, is home to Lord Shiva who lives here amongst the temple and the mountains, in the stone and air, in the centuries-old silence of the high mountain basin. Included amongst the 12 Jyotirlingas, the strongest physical expression of God's presence on Earth, built by the Pandavas and restored by Adi Shankaracharya, this temple survived completely unscathed throughout the destructive 2013 floods that devastated the surrounding area. This temple holds open that which needs to be opened, and it hears the utterances of all beings with such completeness that no human can duplicate it.

Badrinath is located at the elevation of 3133 meters above sea level. It is on the sacred and holy banks of Alaknanda River,  which is guarded by the beautiful snow-covered peak of Neelkanth. It is believed that this is where Lord Vishnu, the preserver of creation, sits in eternal peace and has complete and uninterrupted meditation over the valley that was given to him by Lord Shiva, as a pure expression of divine love. The only Vishnu temple located in the entire Himalayan range is Badrinath, and it calls attention to itself with its solid forms and its bright reds and golds contrasting against the grey-white backgrounds of all the huge mountains that surround it; truly, this temple is permanent public expression of the joy of the creator that can be seen by all.

It is going to be a mind blowing experience filled with peace and blessing. This will be indeed wholesome, you will be able to experience the totality of the Kedarnath Badrinath Yatra in just four days via helicopter from Dehradun, which starts and ends at the Sahastradhara Helipad.  It is one of the most practical and best-organized ways to  experience the entire itinerary without spending  many days on the mountain road or requiring physical exertion trekking 16 km to Kedarnath for anyone physically unable to do so.
