Overview

What do you feel when you hear the word “Kedarnath”?  We are more than sure that your heart tingles as you hear the name. Kedarnath is indeed the holy trip you want to make, it is indeed the most soul aligning experience. Also, this is not just like another trip plan. but , it takes a lot of alignment, takes stars to align and to prepare your body, heart to meet the holy and divine being. You might not notice but, even before you plan, the thoughts of visiting will start coming in your mind ahead of time. And that's the signal from above, it's your time. You might not notice it frequently, but it's like a pattern. Maybe during early morning while you are sipping your coffee alone or  break of dawn, or during your morning prayers or meditation time. You will be more attracted to the deep thoughts with yourself to visit, or maybe in hearts, nerves and  mind. That's why we present to you,  The Kedarnath Yatra via helicopter from Sirsi. And yes, you need not worry, you do not require weeks to complete your pilgrimage, also you will not need to be physically conditioned to trek. You do not have to wait for any particular date.

Kedarnath, is one of the most sacred sites on this planet earth. You get to witness one of the twelve jyotirlingas, of Lord Shiva. This location is desired to be visited by millions of people from India and abroad. This holy shrine was constructed by the Pandavas and restored by Adi Shankaracharya. And today, as well, it stands tall with holy protection despite its location being extensively damaged by natural disasters that struck nearby. It is located deep within the glacial valley of Kedarnath Peak and Kedar Dome, surrounded by mountains. Every person who has been able to visit the Jyotirlinga in their lifetime fully agrees that there is a holy  presence beyond anything imaginable,  definitely not earthbound. This holy journey is designed especially for you, across 3 nights and 4 days. Which begins and ends at Dehradun. It is one of the most unhurried yet more moving trips you will ever have in your lifetime. Kedarnath Yatra by Helicopter from Sirsi, also will give you enough window to explore Dehradun. So technically, your pilgrimage will begin from Dehradun. Where you will opt for the road route and you will drive to Sirsi via Mandakini Valley.

But, before we go much deeper let us share some interesting facts related to the Sirsi Helipad. The Sirsi helipad is located between 1,800-2,000meters above sea level. An interesting factor about its location is that it is situated in the Mandakini valley, which runs along the route from the Sirsi helipad to Kedarnath. And, each successive segment of the flight path leads to some of the world class natural views that Kedarnath offers. Starting from the breathtaking views of Kedarnath's glacial amphitheatre as you fly up through the sacred valley and combining all these aspects creates one of the most stunning approaches to Kedarnath via helicopter that both pilots and seasoned pilgrims have experienced.

In today's generation everything demands time, everything feels so compressed. That's why
The structure of the Kedarnath Yatra from Sirsi is designed to create a deliberate, informed and lovingly generous experience for the pilgrim over three nights and four days. As you arrive in Dehradun, you have the time of transition. It feels like you are entering an extraordinary world from an ordinary world.  The city of Dehradun, is at an elevation of about 640 m above sea level, making it both one of the most beautiful places on earth and one of the most historically rich. It has been instrumental to India as a major gateway to the Himalayas for centuries.  Be sure to visit Tapkeshwar Mahadev Temple, an ancient cave temple where water flows continuously from a spring down onto an original Shivalinga. This is going to be the holy beginning to the journey. This city itself prepares your heart, mind, body for spiritual engagement. Did you know that Dehradun also has some interesting history ? Dehradun has been mentioned in two holy ancient texts that is Ramayana and the Mahabharata. There is a record about  the famous Sage Drona who had an ashram in the valley of Dehradun that he later built into the Kedarnath Temple. So, technically this is where the pilgrimage starts. It is the home of preachers, seekers, and teachers. This is where their grief and devotion are what created the sacred destination you are going to visit. Many pilgrims do not realize that the connection between Kedarnath and Dehradun is very deep, long and meaningful. As soon as you arrive in Dehradun you will immediately sense this for yourself.

The helipad at Sirsi, is one of the most beautiful experiences you will have. There are other helipads in Uttarakhand namely Guptkashi, Phata and Dehradun. The Heli-pad is located in the mid-ranges of the Mandakini Valley, which is very high where you can see the full-fledged Himalayan Nature of the Landscape, yet you are still able to see the peaks of the high valley of Kedarnath on days when the sun is at its highest. As you drive from Dehradun to Sirsi, you will come across some most significant geography for both the Mythological yet natural landscape of the Garhwal region. You will pass through Rishikesh, Devprayag and Rudraprayag. And through Panch Prayag confluences you will be able to witness the Mandakini Valley and its glacial source.  When you get to the Heli Pad at Sirsi and step out of the Helicopter in the morning mountain air, you will feel that you have been already prepared for this most stunning and jaw dropping landscape. The helicopter base at Sirsi has thousands of pilgrims travelling regularly to Kedarnath during the peak season. Pilgrims and seekers often share positive experiences regarding their experience on helicopters from Sirsi to Kedarnath.  Not to mention the operations at Sirsi are known to be very smooth, efficient and friendly.

Highlights

The start your holy journey is from Dehradun
Well, as soon as you reach Dehradun, your pilgrimage begins.  Dehradun is filled with nature, historic spiritual connections and the gateway to holiness. When  you are here, we recommend that you visit some ancient temples, renowned educational institutions, and training centers. Dehradun has been recorded  in the holy hindu scriptures too in Ramayana and Mahabharta. There is mythological history related to the sage Drona, who trained the Pandavas at his ashram here and that's how the valley received its name Drona's Doon. as you walk down the lanes of Dehradun, you will be able to witness the unique point of the city, that is the preserved traditions with  modern touch.  Lets say, just for an example sage’s forest retreat or colonial infrastructure and much more.  It has been beautiful no matter what name it has been called or what purpose it served, Dehradun has been beautiful throughout its entire history.

And, Dehradun is the home to one of the ancient temples, named as Tapkeshwar Mahadev Temple. This temple is inside a cave where a natural spring falls on a naturally created Shivalinga dating back before any records have been kept. Many devotees and pilgrims have shared that this is the best place to start the holy journey that is by offering prayers. As you enter this ancient temple you will sense a very unique environment. You will feel sacred, and you will be able to open your heart to  converse with Lord Shiva. This is right before you actually experience Kedarnath. Apart from this, we would also like to recommend that, if your time allows you to visit a forest research institute, it will prepare your heart and mind for the next day. Also, there is quite an interesting fact. The Forest Research Institute related architecture is a mixture of 3 different traditions. You can see the Mughal, Hindu, and European Gothic architectural styles, which together form an amazing and unique looking building.  This exceptional infrastructure has served as a site for location filming for various Bollywood movies. Not only that,   it has been recognized as one of the premier examples of the Indo-Saxonic architectural style in India. We highly recommend that you should take a walk during the golden hour. You may be able to carefully see the grounds of this structure, the size and age of the existing trees create a unique form of silence to prepare oneself for a trek up to the mountains.

The Drive to Sirsi through Mandakini Valley
The drive starts in the morning, from Dehradun to Sirsi which is approximately  5- 6 hours through Gharwal hills in the Himalayas. As you drive, you will come across Rishikesh is known as 'Yoga Capital of the World' for many reasons, including the jade-green river Ganga flowing through it, the setting of Rishikesh on both banks and the many ancient ashrams here. Rishikesh is known for ancient ashrams, jungles, caves along both banks of Ganga. You will get to see the holy confluence of the two rivers Bhagirathi and Alaknanda. Devprayag is one of the revered sites. And it is believed that this is where Adi Shankaracharya is believed to have composed proportions of his great philosophical theories and commentaries. This confluence highlights how  rivers of different colours blend together ultimately creating River Ganga. It has a history of having been holy ground for thousands of years. And then through Rudraprayag the point at which Alaknanda joins with Mandakini, another holy river associated with Lord Shiva.  It signifies that at Rudraprayag, the road continues to follow the river coming from the very feet of the deity you will be travelling to visit. This period of travel continues to the town named after a sage, Agastmuni and Tilwara. Words will fall short, to describe its beauty. with the Mandakini River flowing into an increasingly majestic valley, with the Himalayas continuing to hold their impressive height, gradually revealing themselves to the traveller as they progress along this route and an increasingly impressive view is offered every kilometer of travel along this route.

Sirsi, the Helipad
The Sirsi Helipad is located at an elevation of 1800- 2000 meters.  As you reach here, you will feel the air getting chillier and thinner. From here, you will get a glimpse of the mighty Snow capped kedarnath peaks. The helicopter ride from Sirsi to Kedarnath is approximately around 15- 20 minutes. Sirsi is one of the main helicopter hubs for Kedarnath pilgrimages and hundreds of pilgrims are flown to Kedarnath every day during peak season. The Sirsi helicopter experience is one that has often been described as quite easy, smooth and scenic. We thank the operations team that they understand the importance of this holy journey that  will be carrying something sacred.

Kedarnath, the final Revelation
From the helipad, Kedarnath is just 500 meters. And it is also known to be one the shortest distance. As you land, you can feel the sense of peace rushing to your veins. Actually, this is the ultimate moment you have been waiting for. You have been longing for the divine moment your entire life. Not only that, from here you will be able to clearly see the Chorabari Glacier. Not only that, but also the three major peaks Kedarnath (6,940 m), Kedar Dome (6,831 m), and Chaukhamba (7,138 m). Downwards,  you will be mesmerised to see the Mandakini river.

At Kedarnath temple you will be able to witness one of the 12 jyotirlingas, that is Kedarnath Jyotirlinga. Offer your prayers in the inner sanctum. You will also get to see “Akhand Jyoti” . It is known as eternal flame in the inner sanctum. It has a very interesting fact related to it. Akhand jyoti is burning continuously for more than six months with no human intervention. Every year, the temple doors open in the month of May.  This process is repeated every year. Thousands of people come to see the Akhand Jyoti during its first visiting time after opening in May.
